The Woodland Devil is an ambitious student film by any standards. An odyssey following John, a young man in an early American, puritan community, who ventures out into the woods with his congregation to find the devil. A mesh of christian and ancient greek imagery in a topical tale of misinformation. The story exceeds in scope, aiming to tackle a fleshed out tale on a small budget with limited resources

My role in the film is that of John's best friend and ally in the church's quest, and, ultimately, a puppet driven mad by Dionysus in the final battle. The performance is one that required more headspace and confidence than traditional line memorization, as all the scenes I was featured in were agonizing moments of manipulation for the character.

In post production, I spearheaded all aspects of the sound. Collecting/recording foley and mixing all the audio with sometimes generous processing required to eliminate the sounds of a modern world creeping its way into the production. The score was to be a traditional choir and orchestral suite but with the catch of not having budget to hire a large amount of musicians. Making careful use of manipulating free plugins with my own vocals and violin mixed in, I was able to create the illusion of an expensive score to accompany the ambition of the film. With a healthy mix of pan flutes, like the one tradionally played by satyrs, and harmonica drones; I aimed to create a natural and massive feeling score that waxes and wanes with the dramatic beats of the tale.
